Moonshots and a Sailboat: Family Discovery at the JFK Presidential Library

On Columbia Point in Dorchester, I.M. Pei’s soaring JFK Presidential Library and Museum gives Boston families the Space Age at kid height: a real Mercury-era space capsule story, the Moon-landing gallery that lets children relive 1969, and young Jack Kennedy’s sailboat Victura floating in the glass pavilion over the harbor. Family festival days and school-vacation programs add storytelling, crafts and civic scavenger hunts.

The museum’s message is pure Happy City material – ask what you can do – delivered through newsreel theaters and hands-on exhibits. Pair it with harbor walks on the point and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute next door for a full civic family day.
