Detroit families have a brand-new way to get happily lost together. A-MAZING Detroit: All Paths Lead to Mi-Sci is a life-size cardboard maze at the Michigan Science Center in Midtown, where every turn celebrates the city itself. The limited-time experience opened on May 9, 2026, in the museum’s upper-level Science Hall, and it has been delighting curious minds of all ages ever since.
Inside the maze, winding pathways are covered in bold mural art inspired by Detroit’s neighborhoods, landmarks and culture. Kids can hunt for Belle Isle and the Heidelberg Project on the Eastside, the Spirit of Detroit and Hart Plaza downtown, Michigan Central Station and Mexicantown in the Southwest, the Fisher Building and Hitsville, U.S.A. in New Center, and Eastern Market and the Science Center itself in Midtown. Spotting a familiar corner of the city becomes part of the game.
The fun continues outside the maze, where young engineers can command robots through mini cardboard mazes, build their own cardboard creations and try a round of cardboard skee-ball, all while discovering how art, design and engineering come together in the humblest of materials.
Best of all, A-MAZING Detroit is included with general admission or a Mi-Sci membership, and it is fully accessible for strollers and mobility aids, with multiple exits throughout. Find it at 5020 John R Street — but hurry, it is here for a limited time only.
