Atlanta families have a magical winter walk to look forward to. The Enchanted Woodland Trail returns to the Chattahoochee Nature Center from December 19, 2026, to February 28, 2027, and the woods will once again be full of tiny new residents: fairy houses and gnome homes tucked along the trail, waiting to be discovered.
Each miniature home is made from natural objects and tiny treasures, and each one is different. The homes are designed and built by volunteers, donors and local artists, so a slow walk becomes a treasure hunt: peek behind trees, look closely at the details, and pick a family favorite. It is the kind of outing that turns an ordinary winter day into a small adventure for children and grown-ups alike.
Feeling creative? The center invites aspiring “fairy architects” to build a themed woodland home of their own and enter it in the trail’s contest, with cash prizes for first, second and third place. Visitors get their say, too: the People’s Choice winner, who receives a Chattahoochee Nature Center membership, is voted for at the Enchanted Woodland Wonders Family Fun Day on January 17.
The trail is included with general admission and is free for members. The center, at 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell, a short drive from Atlanta, is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., and will be closed on December 24–25 and December 31–January 1. Admission is $20 for adults and $14 for children ages 3–12, with children 2 and under free, and advance tickets are recommended.
