Dallas gets to celebrate a beautiful beginning this fall. Dallas Black Dance Theatre presents GENESIS, a Director’s Choice program that brings the company’s iconic early works back to the stage on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the Wyly Theatre, in the heart of the Dallas Arts District.
Every story has a beginning, and this one is worth cheering for. GENESIS gathers the landmark pieces that laid the foundation for Dallas Black Dance Theatre, honoring the works and the artistry that started it all. Fifty years ago, a founder’s bold dream took root in Dallas and grew step by step, movement by movement, generation by generation. This season, that legacy takes a joyful bow under the banner of Fifty Years in Motion.
For dance lovers, it is a rare chance to see where a Dallas institution comes from: the signature pieces that built its reputation for passion, precision and heart, performed by today’s company in one of the Arts District’s most intimate and striking theaters. With only two performances, both at the Wyly Theatre at 2400 Flora Street, GENESIS promises an evening of history, energy and hometown pride. Happy City News invites Dallas to be in the room where fifty years of dance began.
