One of Baltimore’s great bargains hides in plain sight on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus: world-class chamber music, much of it free. The Shriver Hall Concert Series, presenting since 1966, brings legendary string quartets, pianists and ensembles to Shriver Hall’s intimate stage, with its Discovery Series offering free concerts by rising stars.
The series is a cornerstone of Baltimore’s classical calendar — the kind of Sunday afternoon where a Brentano or a young competition winner plays to a full hall of students, neighbors and lifelong devotees, and tickets for the free shows vanish accordingly. Subscriptions for the flagship concerts remain famously reasonable.
Come for the music; stay for the Homewood campus in the golden hour.
Shriver Hall is on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Charles Village. Season at shriverconcerts.org.
