The Walters Art Museum has a standing invitation for Baltimore families: come make something. The museum’s free family programs — Saturday drop-in art making in the studios, family activity guides and carts in the galleries, and special family festival days through the year — turn a world-class collection into a hands-on playground.
Kids might sculpt a creature inspired by the medieval galleries, print a pattern after the Asian art rooms, or sketch in the Sculpture Court while parents actually finish a cup of coffee. Everything is free, including museum admission, and the staff has the rare gift of making 7,000 years of art feel like it belongs to a seven-year-old.
The Walters is at 600 North Charles Street in Mount Vernon, open Wednesday–Sunday. Family program dates are at thewalters.org — Saturday mornings are the sweet spot.
