For generations of Baltimore kids, Christmas started at the B&O. The Holiday Festival of Trains fills the B&O Railroad Museum each December with model railroad layouts in every scale — tiny towns under tiny trees, circuses, winter villages and trains running through miniature Baltimore — alongside the museum’s full-size locomotives dressed for the season.
Young engineers can work the kid-height layouts, hunt for hidden details in the big displays and climb aboard selected historic cars. The festival anchors the museum’s holiday calendar with THE POLAR EXPRESS rides on select dates, Santa visits and the glow of the Roundhouse in lights.
The festival runs through the holiday season at 901 West Pratt Street. Dates and details post each fall at borail.org — combine it with a ride on the Mile One Express for the full railroad Christmas.
