In a grand Mount Vernon building that began life as a Jesuit school, Baltimore Center Stage has been making Maryland’s boldest theatre since 1963. Officially designated the State Theater of Maryland, the company is known for muscular productions of American classics, daring new plays and a devotion to Baltimore stories told by Baltimore artists.
Its seasons mix world premieres with reimagined standards across two intimate spaces — the Pearlstone Theater and the flexible Head Theater — where no seat feels far from the action. Community programs, from playwriting labs to its long-running young playwrights festival, keep the pipeline of local voices flowing.
Mount Vernon’s cultural mile runs right through its lobby.
Baltimore Center Stage is at 700 North Calvert Street. Season at centerstage.org.
