She carried cargo through the last months of World War II, served in Korea and Vietnam, and now she guards Tampa’s Channel District as a floating museum: the SS American Victory, one of only four fully operational WWII Victory ships in existence.
Moored behind The Florida Aquarium, the 455-foot ship is a time capsule visitors can climb through — bridge, crew quarters, galley, cargo holds and gun tubs preserved as her crews left them, maintained by volunteers who still get her underway for special Relive History cruises.
Below decks, exhibits on merchant mariners — the unsung sailors of WWII — give the ship her soul.
She’s Tampa’s most hands-on history: steel, salt and stories, open daily at the port that keeps her home.
