Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park: Downtown Tampa’s Green Living Room

Eight acres of green in the middle of the glass towers: Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is downtown Tampa’s front lawn, a terraced riverside park designed for festivals, picnics and the simple joy of watching the Hillsborough River go by.

Anchored by the Tampa Museum of Art and Glazer Children’s Museum, the park hosts the city’s calendar — Winter Village’s ice rink and holiday market each season, concerts, yoga on the lawn, food festivals and the Riverwalk’s busiest stretch right at its feet. Kids claim the playgrounds and splash features; everyone claims the sunset.

From here, Plant Hall’s minarets pose across the river in Tampa’s most-posted photo.

Downtowns need living rooms. Tampa’s has a river view and room for 10,000 friends.
