Treasure Seekers: Pirates, Conquistadors and Sunken Gold at the History Center

X marks the gallery. “Treasure Seekers: Conquistadors, Pirates & Shipwrecks” at the Tampa Bay History Center dives into Florida’s centuries of treasure — the Spanish fleets that sailed these waters heavy with gold, the pirates who hunted them, and the salvors who still hunt the wrecks.

The gallery puts real shipwreck artifacts within reach: cannons, coins and cargo raised from the deep, a replica ship’s deck for young buccaneers, and the stories of the 1715 and 1733 fleets whose losses seeded Florida’s Treasure Coast legend. Interactive stations let visitors try the navigator’s tools that decided fortunes.

It connects Tampa’s Gasparilla pirate mythology to the genuine, glittering history beneath it.

Adventure, archaeology and actual gold. Bring your inner pirate — the History Center supplies the map.
