Downtown’s most heroic little museum stands watch beside the fire station it once was. The Tampa Firefighters Museum, in the restored 1911 Fire Station No. 1, preserves the rigs, helmets, hand-drawn hose reels and stories of Tampa Fire Rescue — from bucket brigades to the Great Fire of 1903-era rebuilds.
Retired firefighters guide much of the storytelling, and the collection’s gleaming antique engines and the children’s education zone make it a favorite for school visits; a memorial honors the Tampa firefighters lost in the line of duty.
Admission is free (donations welcome), and its event hall in the old station’s upstairs is one of downtown’s most characterful rooms.
Tampa’s bravest kept their history in the family. Come ring the bell.
