Travel Millions of Years Through California at the Cal Academy’s New Planetarium Show “Timescapes”

The California Academy of Sciences is taking San Francisco on a jaw-dropping journey through deep time. Its brand-new, original planetarium show Timescapes premiered this September and is now playing at the Morrison Planetarium in Golden Gate Park — and it is already winning hearts.

Narrated by Bay Area native Aisha Tyler, Timescapes sweeps audiences from prehistoric seas patrolled by giant marine reptiles to vast herds of migrating mammoths, and even soaring ancient winged giants. The adventure then turns to a thought-provoking look at how humans have shaped California over the centuries — and how learning from the past can help us build a regenerative, resilient future.

Stunning visuals fill the world’s largest all-digital planetarium dome, making every visitor feel as though they are flying through time itself. Planetarium shows are included with museum admission, and reservations are required — just scan the QR code in the lobby when you arrive, since shows fill up fast on weekends. Thursday nights bring special 21+ NightLife screenings for a grown-ups-only cosmic night out.

Whether you are a science lover, a movie fan, or simply looking for an unforgettable family outing in San Francisco, Timescapes is a brand-new reason to visit the greenest museum on the planet.
