Science really is for everyone in San Diego. On the third Saturday of every month, the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park opens its doors an hour early — at 9 a.m. — for Accessibility Mornings, a sensory-friendly experience designed for visitors of all needs and abilities. The next edition is Saturday, November 21, 2026.
During Accessibility Mornings the galleries are quieter and calmer, and guests are welcome to stay and enjoy the museum all day. At 10 a.m., the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater hosts a special documentary screening with the house lights on and the soundtrack volume turned low, so everyone can enjoy the film in comfort.
The Fleet makes joining easy: admission is free for one visitor and an accompanying guest, with regular admission rates for additional visitors. Noise-canceling headsets are available during the visit — just ask at the ticket counter or at the Giant Dome Theater — and the center says it strives every day to be an inclusive place where people of all needs and abilities are welcome and respectfully accommodated.
The Fleet Science Center, at 1875 El Prado in Balboa Park, is one of San Diego’s most hands-on science destinations, with interactive galleries and giant-screen films for curious minds of every age. Accessibility Mornings add one more happy reason to plan a Balboa Park Saturday — science, shared by everyone.
