Coronado Beach: Miles of Sparkling Sand Across the Bay

Consistently ranked among the best beaches in the United States, Coronado Beach stretches for a mile and a half of wide, flat, golden sand with gentle waves and postcard views of the San Diego skyline across the water.

Just over the iconic San Diego–Coronado Bridge (or a short, scenic ferry ride from downtown), this public beach is a local favorite for swimming, bodysurfing, beach volleyball and long sunset walks. Its famous “singing sand” squeaks underfoot thanks to sparkling mica in the grains.

It is ideal for families, couples and anyone who wants an easy, classic California beach day: lifeguards on duty, restrooms and fire rings for bonfires. Practical tip: parking is free along Ocean Boulevard but fills fast on summer weekends — take the ferry from downtown and skip the bridge traffic entirely.
