December Nights Returns to Balboa Park December 4-5: San Diego’s Largest Free Holiday Festival

Happy City News has the happiest date on San Diego’s holiday calendar: December Nights is back at Balboa Park on Friday, December 4, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday, December 5, from noon to 10 p.m. The City of San Diego calls it its largest free holiday festival, and the whole park joins in, from the Prado’s glowing facades to the gardens and plazas in between.

The family-friendly celebration brings San Diegans together to enjoy the lights, the sounds, the attractions and, of course, the amazing food. Museums, gardens and cultural groups across the 1,200-acre park add their own festive touches, while stages fill with music and dance and food vendors serve flavors from around the world.

This year the festival also spreads a little extra kindness: the City is teaming up with San Diego Gas & Electric for a sock drive to benefit unsheltered clients of PATH San Diego. Attendees can drop off a new pair of socks at the SDG&E booth, look for the all-electric SDG&E truck in front of the House of Hospitality in the Plaza de Panama, or find the Toyota Sienna Sleigh.

Admission is free, so plan to arrive early, stroll under the lights and make a full evening of it. December Nights is the kind of tradition that reminds everyone why Balboa Park is the city’s cultural heart, shining brightest when the whole community celebrates together.
