On Monday, October 19, La Jolla Playhouse will light up its outdoor Taper Plaza for the 19th Annual Innovation Night, an evening where San Diego’s world-class science and technology community takes center stage. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., leaders from biotech, life sciences, high tech, clean tech, defense and telecommunications will gather for networking, refreshments and a taste of live theatre.
This year’s honoree is Dr. David Brenner, president and CEO of Sanford Burnham Prebys, whose groundbreaking research in gastroenterology has led to more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and major advances in medicine. Guests will enjoy live music from the Playhouse’s upcoming world-premiere musical, Particle Fever, plus a special Innovation Gallery showcasing projects by participating companies.
For nearly two decades, Innovation Night has raised vital funds for the Playhouse’s new play development and its Learning and Engagement programs — the theatre’s own “R&D” — while building creative bridges between San Diego’s science and arts worlds. In a region home to one of the largest innovation economies on the planet, the event has become one of the city’s most anticipated fundraisers. Happy City News celebrates an evening where breakthroughs in the lab and magic on the stage share the spotlight.
