SAMA’s Must-See Exhibition ‘Microhistories of the Andes’ on View Through May 2027

Named one of the must-see shows this spring by The New York Times, Microhistories of the Andes at the San Antonio Museum of Art is still shining in the museum’s Golden Gallery — and it will stay on view through May 23, 2027.

Curated by Kristopher Driggers, Curator of Latin American Art, the exhibition starts with individual objects and lets them tell the bigger story: Andean cosmologies, agricultural traditions, objects of devotion and spirituality, and the histories of materials across land and time. Visitors can admire textiles, ceramic sculptures, paintings, metalwork, and feather arts spanning from the first millennium AD to the twentieth century, with recent acquisitions and works not seen in many years.

Housed in the historic Lone Star Brewery on the Museum Reach of the River Walk, SAMA invites everyone to explore how single objects open windows into entire cultures. The exhibition is included with museum admission, and public programming will be announced throughout its run.
