San Antonio is celebrating the stories of Mexican American heroes in a powerful new exhibition that connects the city’s deep roots to the nation’s 250th birthday.
“Somos Americanos: Our American Story,” presented by the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI) at the MACRI Visitor Center, shows how Mexican Americans have lived out America’s highest democratic ideals through public service, civic leadership and acts of valor. The exhibit is open now through December 18, 2026, as part of the America250 commemoration.
Visitors will meet trailblazers whose courage and contributions shaped the country — from battlefields to courtrooms, from classrooms to corporate boardrooms. Each story is a reminder that Mexican American history is American history, and that San Antonio has been at the heart of that story for generations.
It’s a perfect outing for families, students and anyone who loves a good story of perseverance. The exhibit gallery is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 AM to noon and 1 to 4 PM, or by appointment.
Come discover the democracy-builders next door — and leave inspired by the American story that San Antonio helped write.
