Universal Theme Parks: The Exhibition Brings Movie Magic to OMSI on November 21

Portland families are about to step behind the scenes of their favorite movies. Universal Theme Parks: The Exhibition opens at OMSI on November 21, 2026, inviting visitors of all ages to discover the science behind the thrills in some of the most beloved attractions ever created.

Across eight galleries, families can explore more than 100 original artifacts, including authentic costumes, cinematic props and early concept models. Beloved worlds come to life along the way, from Jaws and Jurassic World to Illumination’s Minions, The Secret Life of Pets and Sing, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon, the classic Universal Monsters and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD.

This is not just an exhibition to look at — it is one to play with. Twenty interactive experiences let kids and grown-ups conceptualize their own ride, animate a character, design a monster mask, cue a live show and experiment with animation and projection mapping. Along the way, visitors hear directly from the artists, engineers and show creators who turn bold ideas into unforgettable adventures.

The exhibition runs through April 18, 2027, and is included with museum admission, which also opens OMSI’s permanent exhibit halls and science labs. Most guests spend 45 to 60 minutes inside, strollers are welcome, and photography without flash is allowed — a perfect family day out on Portland’s east bank.
