The oldest love story in opera gets the intimate treatment it deserves. Pittsburgh Opera presents Gluck’s Orpheus & Eurydice — in the version with Hector Berlioz’s instrumentation — at the Byham Theater on November 14, 20 and 22, 2026.
Orpheus journeys to the underworld to rescue Eurydice, armed only with his music — and Gluck’s score, stripped of Baroque excess in 1762, still lands like a thunderbolt of sincerity. The Byham’s jewel-box scale puts every grief-stricken aria within arm’s reach, and Pittsburgh Opera’s Resident Artists anchor the production as the season continues across its four venues.
Performances are Saturday, November 14 and Friday, November 20 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, November 22 at 2 p.m. at the Byham Theater, 101 6th Street downtown. Tickets at pittsburghopera.org.
