Every great river city has a front porch, and Pittsburgh’s is pure drama. Point State Park fills the golden triangle where the Allegheny and Monongahela join to form the Ohio — 36 acres of lawns, trails and history at the very tip of downtown, crowned by a fountain that shoots water 150 feet into the sky.
The fountain, fed by an underground fourth river (an aquifer flowing beneath the city), runs from spring through fall and anchors everything from Fourth of July celebrations to lazy Sunday picnics. Beneath your feet lie the outlines of Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne, marked in the grass; the Fort Pitt Museum tells their story nearby.
Come for the sunsets, when the bridges light up and the rivers turn to glass. Point State Park is a Pennsylvania state park, free and open daily — the city’s living room, with the best view in the house.
