Pittsburgh’s Kamin Science Center might be the easiest family ‘yes’ in town. Four floors on the North Shore stack the day perfectly: little kids splash into preschool science zones, big kids test their fastball science at Highmark SportsWorks, and everyone ends up in roboworld arguing about which robot is coolest (it’s the basketball-shooting one; it’s always the basketball-shooting one).
Build the day around the Buhl Planetarium shows — the dome lineup runs from preschool-friendly star stories to full-throttle space films — and the Rangos Giant Cinema for a mid-day rest with maximum wow. The USS Requin submarine, docked outside, is the grand finale for patient families (lines move, and the tour is worth it).
The center is at One Allegheny Avenue. Check the daily schedule at kaminsciencecenter.org; planetarium seats go first on rainy weekends.
