The Philadelphia Museum of Art will present “El Anatsui: Prints and Play,” running December 19, 2026, through May 2, 2027 — the first comprehensive museum survey of the print-related work of world-renowned Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui, born in 1944.
The exhibition brings together more than 90 works spanning five decades of printmaking experimentation, celebrating a vital but lesser-known side of the artist’s practice alongside his iconic bottle-cap tapestries. Prints, works on paper, and hybrid objects trace an extraordinary arc of invention in texture, material, and process.
Announced September 16, 2026, the show marks a major international-exhibition moment for the museum this winter, offering Philadelphia audiences a rare, deep look at an artist whose work reshaped contemporary sculpture worldwide.
