Harry P. Leu Gardens: A 50-Acre Botanical Oasis in Orlando

Just minutes from downtown Orlando, the Harry P. Leu Gardens feel like stepping into another world: 50 acres of lush tropical plants, towering camphor trees, colorful azaleas, and roses in bloom, all wrapped in peaceful, shady paths.

The gardens grew from the private estate of Harry and Mary Jane Leu, who traveled the world collecting plants and then gave it all to the City of Orlando in 1961 — a gift the whole city still enjoys today. Don’t miss the historic Leu House, a restored 19th-century home offering a sweet glimpse into old Florida life, and the butterfly garden, a favorite with kids.

It’s an ideal outing for families, couples, and photographers: stroller-friendly paths, plenty of benches in the shade, and something blooming in every season. Admission is small, and the peace you take home is priceless. Tip: visit in spring, when the azaleas explode in color.
