In Winter Park, a museum is turning a personal story of resilience into a day of hope for the whole community: the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens hosts Stroke Awareness Day, a free community event for World Stroke Day on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
The event honors the museum’s founder, sculptor Albin Polasek, whose powerful story inspires it all: after a debilitating stroke left him partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair, he never stopped creating — and kept producing award-winning art. His sculpture “Man Carving His Own Destiny” says it best.
The free program includes “Stroke Solutions: Keys to Recovery & Prevention”, a talk by author and stroke survivor Valerie Greene on her 30-year recovery journey — plus a book signing — in partnership with Global Stroke Resource, Inc. Special guided tours will focus on Polasek’s determination and artistic achievements after his stroke.
Families will love the hands-on, art therapy-inspired activity for all ages and abilities (all materials provided), and visitors can also pick up stroke awareness, prevention and wellness resources with AdventHealth.
Free admission, inspiring stories and art for everyone — at 633 Osceola Avenue, Winter Park.
