In Astoria, Queens, the Museum of the Moving Image turns screen time into creative time. Its beloved Jim Henson Exhibition puts families face to face with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and dozens of original puppets, sketches and costumes, while the core exhibition ‘Behind the Screen’ lets kids dub their voices into movie scenes, create stop-motion animations and play classic video games.
Workshops and family film programs run throughout the year, and the building itself – a former 1920s movie studio – makes the visit feel like stepping onto a set. For children who dream in cartoons and parents who grew up with the Muppets, it’s one of the happiest museum days in New York.
