Guggenheim Unveils Monumental Taryn Simon Exhibition in the Rotunda

One of the most ambitious exhibitions in the Guggenheim’s history has arrived: Taryn Simon: Father Country I Do Love You, on view September 18, 2026 through March 14, 2027, filling the museum’s iconic rotunda from bottom to top.

The project is nearly a decade in the making. Across 42 multipart artworks — photographs, text, videos and sculptures woven into a single interactive installation — Simon traces the real life of one unnamed federal agent, following how his actions and inactions rippled outward through decades of American history. Interlaced with that narrative is the life of the artist’s own father, who worked for the U.S. government in Thailand before becoming an arcade-game manufacturer.

Presented during the 250th anniversary of the United States, the exhibition marks two historic firsts: it is the first monographic rotunda show by a photography-based artist, and the largest debut of new work ever staged at the Guggenheim.
