Some of New York’s best free family fun hides in plain sight at the public library. At the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on Fifth Avenue, the Children’s Center at 42nd Street welcomes kids with bright reading nooks, story times and a very special display: the original Winnie-the-Pooh stuffed animals that inspired the classic stories, beloved by generations of young readers.
Across the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island, neighborhood branches run baby and toddler story times, bilingual programs, homework help and hands-on workshops every week – all completely free with a library card. For families, the New York Public Library is part reading adventure, part community living room, and always a happy place to land on a rainy day.
