Moored on the Hudson River at Pier 86, the Intrepid Museum lets families explore a real aircraft carrier that served from World War II to the space age. Kids can walk the enormous flight deck among historic aircraft, duck inside the submarine Growler, and stand beneath the space shuttle Enterprise in its pavilion – a day of ‘wow’ that sneaks in a whole history lesson.
Interactive exhibits invite young visitors to try hands-on challenges, explore a recreated space capsule and learn how 3,000 sailors lived and worked at sea. Flight simulators and the museum’s popular Kids Week and family programs add extra reasons to return. It’s big, bold and surprisingly manageable with children – plan a few hours and comfortable shoes.
