Get ready for opera like you’ve never seen it before. This November, Nashville Opera presents Fortuna the Time Bender vs. the Schoolgirls of Doom, a brand-new, high-energy comic opera written and composed by Jason Powell, arriving November 13–15, 2026 at The Studio at The Noah Liff Opera Center.
The story is pure delight: when the villainous Headmaster threatens the city with his trio of musical minions, it’s up to the time-bending Fortuna and her nerdy apprentice to save the day. The music blends opera, Broadway, Hollywood, Gilbert & Sullivan, and a touch of 1980s flair, with what the company calls a “Scott Pilgrim” visual energy — proof that opera can be as fun as your favorite graphic novel.
Directed by John Hoomes and conducted by Stephen Kummer with the Nashville Opera Orchestra, the production runs about two hours and ten minutes with intermission, sung in English and recommended for ages 10 and up. It’s part of the company’s 26/27 season and received support from OPERA America’s Next Stage Grants.
Performances are Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14 at 7:30 PM, plus a Sunday matinee on November 15 at 3:00 PM. With its intimate studio setting, this is one of the freshest — and funniest — tickets of the fall in Nashville.
