Nashville’s tiniest theatergoers are in for one last joyful hop: A Year with Frog and Toad, the whimsical musical based on Arnold Lobel’s beloved books, closes its run at Nashville Children’s Theatre on Sunday, October 18. Only a few performances remain at the theatre’s Hill Theatre, so families should grab their seats while they can.
The show is a genuine Broadway hit in miniature: the original production earned three Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. With book and lyrics by Willie Reale and a hummable score by Robert Reale, this charming stage adaptation follows two great friends — the cheerful, energetic Frog and the rather grumpy Toad — through four fun-filled seasons. Along the way, the two best friends celebrate the differences that make them unique and special, telling a story of friendship that endures all year long.
Directed by Jenilee Houghton with music direction by Sarah M. Bailey and choreography by Joi Ware, the production is part of Nashville Children’s Theatre’s 2026-27 season, themed “From Page to Stage.” Recommended for grades K–8, it continues NCT’s proud tradition as the country’s oldest youth-centered professional theatre — where the entire experience is built for families, from preshow lobby activities an hour before every performance to neuro-inclusive performances, ASL interpretation, booster seats, and a cozy ‘chill corner’ for anyone who needs a quiet break.
Tickets are $38.50 for adults and $28.50 for youth, and they’re available now at nashvillechildrenstheatre.org. Don’t miss the final leap — Frog and Toad are waiting!
