Centennial Park and the Parthenon: Nashville’s Greek Treasure

Believe it or not, the world’s only full-scale replica of the ancient Parthenon stands in Nashville, Tennessee — and it is every bit as breathtaking as it sounds.

Centennial Park, the 132-acre green heart of west Nashville, is home to this stunning reconstruction, built for Tennessee’s 1897 Centennial Exposition and lovingly rebuilt in concrete in the 1920s. Inside, you’ll find an art museum and the towering 42-foot gilded statue of Athena, a golden goddess that leaves visitors speechless.

But the park is much more than its Greek jewel. Stroll the walking trails, have a picnic by Lake Watauga, splash at the summer pool, or join locals for outdoor concerts and the popular dog park. It’s ideal for families, history lovers, photographers, and anyone who wants a happy, easy day outdoors.

Tip: admission to the Parthenon museum is very affordable, and the park grounds are free — go early on weekends to enjoy the gardens at their quietest.
