The Twin Cities’ secret family weapon is a ring of nature centers run by Three Rivers Park District — and most of the magic is free. At Eastman Nature Center in Dayton, kids meet live turtles and snakes, walk floating boardwalks over wetlands and join naturalists for everything from maple sugaring to owl prowls.
Richardson Nature Center in Bloomington adds raptors in residence and a beloved nature play area; Lowry in Victoria wraps trails around a lake with a storybook discovery room. Across the district, 27,000 acres of regional parks layer in beaches, farm programs at Gale Woods, and winter sledding and snowshoe trails.
The naturalists are the real treasure — people who can make a six-year-old care passionately about a frog. Find your nearest center and put it on repeat.
