More Than 100 New Treasures Shine at MOCA in ‘In These Times’

Happy City News has joyful news for art lovers in Los Angeles: In These Times: Recent Acquisitions at MOCA is now on view at MOCA Grand Avenue, where it opened on September 20, 2026, and runs through January 3, 2027. The exhibition celebrates the newest chapters of one of the city’s most beloved contemporary art collections.

The show surveys artworks added to the museum’s collection over the past five years, highlighting major purchases and generous gifts alongside treasures from MOCA’s broader holdings. In total, visitors will find more than 100 works by over 50 artists — a vibrant snapshot of the art being made and collected right now.

The galleries are organized thematically, with rooms devoted to representations of Los Angeles, group portraiture, recent developments in abstract painting, and works that dwell in obsessive detail. Along the way you will meet art by Henry Taylor, Andrea Bowers, Charles Gaines, Julie Mehretu and Nairy Baghramian, Liz Larner, Kathleen Ryan, and Vincent Valdez, among many others.

Organized by Senior Curator Bennett Simpson with Curatorial Assistant Ariana Rizo, In These Times is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon downtown at 250 South Grand Avenue — and to see, all in one visit, where Los Angeles art is heading next.
