Las Vegas artist Ali Fathollahi is turning the gaps between languages into art at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at UNLV, where his new installation series ‘Between Two Terms’ is now on view in the Window Gallery through May 22, 2027.
The satirical installations — which will change several times during the run of the show — take a sharply humorous look at the frailty and hubris of public communication. As a multilingual Iranian American artist, Fathollahi is attuned to the spaces between words and the ways messages can reward, bewilder or mislead different listeners, and his title playfully echoes the parodic talk show ‘Between Two Ferns.’
The new work continues an idea he first presented at the Barrick in 2023, when he positioned two fans blowing hot and cold air at one another — a witty visual summary of two speakers who cannot quite hear each other.
Admission to the Barrick Museum is free, and the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is a playful, thoughtful stop that invites Las Vegas visitors to think about serious questions with a smile.
