Science City With Kids: The Can’t-Miss Stops Inside Union Station

Science City at Union Station is Kansas City’s ultimate rainy-day (and any-day) answer for families. Here’s how to conquer it with kids.

Start at the Dino Lab and dig pit, where young paleontologists brush real fossils out of the rock. Then ride the Sky Bike — pedaling a bicycle on a tightrope two stories up teaches physics and courage at once. The Maker Studio lets kids build, launch and race their own creations, while the Nature Center introduces native Missouri animals up close.

Slow down at the water tables and the human-body exhibits, then finish outside the science center with Union Station’s model trains and the planetarium next door.

Buy tickets ahead on weekends, arrive at opening, and pack snacks: Science City days happily run long.
