A 1,256-Pound Gourd Steals the Show at the Houston Museum of Natural Science

Halloween at the Houston Museum of Natural Science just got a whole lot bigger. The museum has unveiled its Ultimate Halloween Gourd, a giant pumpkin grown in Minnesota that tips the scales at an astonishing 1,256 pounds, and visitors can see it up close in the museum’s Grand Hall.

The record-worthy gourd is the centerpiece of the museum’s fall celebrations. Families can admire its sheer size, snap photos beside it and join the fun of guessing just how much candy it would take to fill it. Museum staff say the display is a playful way to connect visitors with the science of how giant pumpkins grow, from seed selection and soil to the daily care these champions require.

The gourd is on view for a limited time this month, making it a perfect excuse for a family trip to the Museum District. While you are there, the museum’s permanent halls — from towering dinosaurs to dazzling gems — offer a full day of discovery for curious minds of all ages.

Happy City News loves a giant pumpkin with a big story, and this one delivers. Head to the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Hermann Park and meet the biggest Halloween star in town before it is gone.
