Trails, Turtles and Tyke Hikes: Family Nature Days at the Houston Arboretum

Tucked into the western edge of Memorial Park, the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center gives city kids 155 acres of forest, ponds and meadows to explore. Five miles of trails wind through the woods, where families can spot turtles sunning on logs, listen for woodpeckers and watch dragonflies skim the water.

The Arboretum’s family programs are a local favorite: guided Tyke Hikes for little ones, nature crafts, night hikes and seasonal festivals introduce children to the wild side of Houston in a safe, shady setting just minutes from downtown.

Admission to the grounds is free, and the Discovery Room offers hands-on exhibits for curious minds. For Houston families, it is the easiest possible nature escape — no road trip required.
