Storytimes, STEM and Free Family Fun at Houston Public Library

Houston Public Library turns its branches across the city into free family clubhouses, with storytimes for babies and toddlers, bilingual read-alouds, LEGO clubs, STEM workshops and homework help for school-age kids — every program completely free with a library card that costs nothing.

The Central Library downtown and neighborhood branches host a rotating calendar of family events: puppet shows, craft afternoons, author visits and the city’s popular summer reading challenge, which keeps Houston kids turning pages with prizes and parties.

For families, the library is one of Houston’s happiest resources: air-conditioned, welcoming and packed with books, games and discovery — proof that a great family day out does not have to cost a thing.
