Four Decades of Brilliant Printmaking: Terry Winters’ Vitalized Geometry Opens at the Menil Collection

Houston art lovers have a radiant new reason to visit the Menil Collection. Terry Winters: Vitalized Geometry, on view from September 25, 2026 through April 4, 2027, brings together some 44 works spanning nearly four decades of the artist’s brilliant printmaking.

The exhibition celebrates two remarkable groups of gifts: 51 works given in 2024 by photographer Jack Shear and the estate of his husband, artist Ellsworth Kelly — nearly three-quarters of Winters’ 1980s prints — plus seven works donated by the artist himself in May 2026, including Azimuth (2024), Round (2022), and Red Stone (2019).

Organized in close consultation with Terry Winters, the show explores woodcut, screenprint, lithography, and more. It opens with the prints Morula (1983–84) and closes with the portfolio Azimuth (2024), inspired by the mathematics of star navigation. The Menil now holds 76 works by Winters in its permanent collection.

As always, admission to the Menil Collection is completely free. Visit the museum’s official website for details.
