Space Center Houston is wrapping up World Space Week with a mission-ready adventure for young explorers. On Saturday, October 10, the center hosts “Stars & STEM: The Challenges of Space Exploration,” a hands-on experience that invites kids to step into the shoes of NASA astronauts and engineers.
Participants will tackle real space problems: a lockbox challenge simulating the communication delays and blackout scenarios of long-distance spaceflight, a spacesuit engineering challenge to design gear tough enough for the Moon, a Mars sample-retrieval mission, and an Artemis-themed escape-room rescue. The adventure wraps up with a tram tour of NASA’s Johnson Space Center and dinner alongside an astronaut.
World Space Week, celebrated every October 4-10, honors the 1957 launch of Sputnik 1 and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty in 1967. Space Center Houston, the official visitor center of NASA Johnson Space Center, celebrates with special programming that makes science feel like an adventure.
The event runs from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and requires advance registration. It is one of the center’s beloved Stars & STEM adventures, designed to spark curiosity and confidence in the next generation of space explorers.
