Step Afrika! Stomps the Detroit Opera House Stage November 14

Feel it in your feet: Step Afrika!, the world’s first professional company dedicated to the art of stepping, brings its percussive, high-voltage performance to the Detroit Opera House on Saturday, November 14, 2026.

Founded in 1994, the Washington, D.C.-based company blends the stepping traditions of Black fraternities and sororities with African dance, storytelling and audience participation. The result is part concert, part history lesson and pure adrenaline — performers’ bodies become instruments, and the theater itself starts to thump.

The performance is part of Detroit Opera’s dance season and its Detroit Opera House Presents series. Tickets are at detroitopera.org; bring the whole crew and prepare to clap along.
