Elgar & Britten: ‘Enigma Variations’ Haunts Orchestra Hall October 31–November 1

Halloween weekend at Orchestra Hall pairs mystery with majesty. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra performs Enigma Variations & Britten on October 31 and November 1, 2026, with guest conductor Tabita Berglund and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes.

Elgar’s Enigma Variations — fourteen musical portraits of his friends, crowned by the noble ‘Nimrod’ — shares the program with music by Benjamin Britten and a work by Anna Clyne. It’s a program of English airs and autumnal glow, perfectly timed for the season of turning leaves.

Performances are Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, 3711 Woodward Avenue in Midtown. Tickets are at dso.org.
