State Fair of Texas Welcomes Families to Its Eighth Year of Sensory-Friendly Mornings

The State Fair of Texas is opening its arms a little wider this year, celebrating the eighth edition of its beloved Sensory-Friendly Mornings — a gentler, calmer way to enjoy the Most Texan Place on Earth.

Every Wednesday, the Fairgrounds trade roaring lights and music for a softer rhythm from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Two more mornings remain in 2026: October 7 and October 14. Guests can enjoy the Midway with no flashing lights or loud sounds between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., follow a special guided itinerary designed to be easy on the eyes and ears, and relax in designated Quiet Zones — including the Safe Kids Corral, which now serves as a sensory-friendly room every one of the Fair’s 24 days, from open to close.

This year brings thoughtful new touches. The Fair has joined the internationally recognized Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, offering free sunflower-themed accessories at Hospitality Centers and Guest Relations so guests can discreetly signal they may need extra patience or assistance. The program was designed with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards and local partners, and it welcomes individuals with autism, their families, and anyone who benefits from a calmer visit.

Bonus: Wednesdays are also the Fair’s best discount day — bring five canned food items for the North Texas Food Bank and receive $7 admission. Find the guided itinerary at BigTex.com/Sensory.
