Dallas Symphony Orchestra Welcomes Six New Musicians for the 2026/27 Season

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is sounding better than ever this season — and it’s welcoming fresh talent to its stage. The DSO has announced the appointment of six new musicians to the orchestra roster for the 2026/27 concert season, each bringing exceptional artistry and passion to the Meyerson Symphony Center.

The new musicians, who began their roles on September 1, 2026, are Yong Ha Jung (section viola), Pedro Mendez (section viola), Kelly Avila (interim section viola), Reese Farnell (assistant principal/utility horn), Forrest Albano (interim utility trumpet) and Melissa Robason (principal librarian, Jessie D. & E. B. Godsey Chair).

“I am delighted to welcome these talented musicians to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra this season,” said Music Director Fabio Luisi. “Each brings exceptional artistry and dedication, and I look forward to the talent, passion and musical excellence they will contribute to our performances.”

The group has impressive roots: Mendez began his musical journey through Venezuela’s celebrated El Sistema program and previously performed with the DSO as a fellow, while Jung — who moved to Dallas at age nine — trained at Juilliard and performed with top youth and festival orchestras. Farnell, a Fort Worth native, grew up attending DSO concerts and is “overjoyed” to now be a member of the horn section.

Music lovers can hear the new musicians in concert throughout the season at the Meyerson. A great time to fall in love with live classical music in Dallas!
