In the King-Lincoln Bronzeville district, the Lincoln Theatre has been Columbus’ jazz landmark since 1928 — an Egyptian Revival ballroom-and-theatre where Columbus legends and touring greats played the city’s Black cultural main street.
Restored and reopened under CAPA’s stewardship, the Lincoln today hums with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra’s heritage programming, the Backstage at the Lincoln local-artist series, gospel brunches, comedy and community celebrations — plus the Jazz Academy teaching the next generation upstairs.
The neighborhood that raised Nancy Wilson and Rahsaan Roland Kirk still swings; the Lincoln is its living room and its loudspeaker.
Some theatres show history. The Lincoln is history, with a house band.
