Chicago families with a little dinosaur fan at home have a perfect Saturday plan coming up. The Field Museum’s Crown Family PlayLab continues its Itty Bitty Explorers series with T. rex Teeth & Tails, a hands-on workshop created just for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers.
The two-hour sessions run on Saturday, November 14, and Saturday, December 19, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The first session in the series, on Saturday, October 17, filled up, so early booking is a smart idea. Tickets are required and cost $35 for members and $40 for non-members, and registration includes general admission to the museum for the child and a caregiver, according to the PlayLab program guide.
It is an ideal first museum adventure. In the PlayLab, early learners can play paleontologist with dinosaur bones, explore world cultures through music, step into everyday life in a recreated pueblo and make artwork in the Discovery Studio. The PlayLab, designed for children ages 2 to 6, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., has wheelchair access, a nursing room and a quiet reading corner, and offers much of its information in Spanish as well.
After the workshop, families can keep exploring together and say hello to SUE, the museum’s famous T. rex. The Field Museum, at 1400 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last entry at 4 p.m. Questions about the program can go to the PlayLab team at [email protected].
