There is a wonderful reason to visit the Art Institute of Chicago this fall and winter: Mary Cassatt: After Impressionism, on view through January 3, 2027.
The exhibition brings together 70 paintings and works on paper from the period after Cassatt’s Impressionist years — from the late 1880s to the early 1900s — spanning painting, printmaking and even mural painting. Long celebrated for her tender scenes of women and children, Cassatt emerges here as a bold modernist experimenter whose aesthetic innovations crossed the Atlantic.
It’s a fresh, joyful look at one of art history’s most beloved figures, perfectly timed for the holiday season. The Art Institute is open daily at 111 S. Michigan Ave., and the exhibition is included with museum admission.
