NASCAR Hall of Fame: Charlotte’s Cathedral of Speed

Charlotte is NASCAR’s hometown — most race teams are based here — and its cathedral is the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a 150,000-square-foot celebration of American speed in Uptown. Glory Road greets you first: a banked ramp curling through the atrium, lined with historic stock cars at racing angles, from moonshine-era coupes to modern monsters.

Inside, the Hall of Honor enshrines the legends — Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Bill France — while interactive galleries let visitors call a race, work a pit stop against the clock and drive simulators that humble everyone. Artifacts range from championship trophies to the firesuits and handwritten notes of the sport’s pioneers.

It’s a museum with a heartbeat you can hear: engines. Race fan or not, the Hall of Fame makes believers — Charlotte was built for speed.
